Introduction: Ignis Fatuus

During my travels on the fantastic grid Ignis Fatuus I met Max Hill and Aime Socrates two of the responsibles for the grid. I asked them a few question which they willingly answered:

Hyperzette:
Ignis Fatuus is a small grid few people know about. It's a public grid in the hyperverse but run pivate by only a few people. Can you tell the readers how many people are involved in Ignis Fatuus?

Ignis Fatuus:
We are 8 regulars

Hyperzette:
When and how did it all started ?

Ignis Fatuus:
In 2009 Ambre Ulrik decides to create his own world to be able to build sets without any constraint. But Ambre died in July 2012 and Max Hill his RL companion decides to continue the adventure. Since visitors pass regularly, some remained and help evolve the grid.

Hyperzette:
When I visited Ignis Fatuus, what translates to "Will O' The Wisp", the first time I could see on the map a complex of 27 regions. Are there more regions than this to be found ?

Ignis Fatuus:
34 regions exist, just one uniquely for robust and 2 others are used as a sandbox and as a springboard for exceed 4096 which allows to go further in hypergrid. Some regions are closed to all and others very distant.

Hyperzette:
How many servers keep Ignis Fatuus alive and what kind of OpenSim Software do you have in use ?

Ignis Fatuus:
This grid is installed on a computer at home. We use the current version of OpenSim but we have just a small internet connection ranging between 2 and 12 megs, that causes the lag sometimes. We hope for the near future to install on a remote server with a good internet connection.

Hyperzette:
Is Ignis Fatuus available on a 24/7 base or do you have kind of operating hours ?

Ignis Fatuus:
Ignis Fatuus is open after lunch and dinner from 14:00 CET to 2 CET (5 am - 5pm pdt). On the week ends we are online longer.

Hyperzette:
When visiting Ignis Fatuus one can see great builds of all kinds, beautiful buildings, fantastic landscapes, different styles of buildings which could be real but also buildings of pure fantasies which melt together to a whole one. Is this part of a Role Playing or is it just for the fun of building just limited by the imagination of the group or the builder ?

Ignis Fatuus:
It's just for fun to get what is in our imagination and our influences. We hope thus to offer a moment of relaxation to visitors, give them the desire to make pictures or to build in turn what they like.

Hyperzette:
Does everyone of you build for her/his own or do you plan on the areas ?

Ignis Fatuus:
Some people build only regions but we prefer to build the sets, it's more fun for us.

Hyperzette:
Where do you get your ideas from ?

Ignis Fatuus:
We draw our ideas by observing the real world, the games video but also in surfing on the internet.

Hyperzette:
Do you have specialists in building, like one is doing the houses, another one does the landscapes and another one designs something else or is specialist in scripting ?

Ignis Fatuus:
Some of us prefer to build and others prefer scripting. But even once we like working together on the same subject.

Hyperzette:
You have build a virtual replica of the "Paris Opera". On which region is this building to be found and will you integrate it in the other complex ?

Ignis Fatuus:
The opera is on the region "Tremplin 4002", which is remote from the continent. This opera, although it is not finished yet is already on the private world of the Alsacian School at Koeberle. This is a project for the French National Education under construction by Aime Socrates.

Hyperzette:
Are there any other replicas of real buildings to be found on Ignis Fatuus ?

Ignis Fatuus:
There is "Stonehenge" on the region "Cenwen". Aime Socrates made a replica of the "Observatory of the Pic du Midi" with one of his friends on New World Grid.

Hyperzette:
May people join your group and if so what are the requirements to do so ?

Ignis Fatuus:
Yes, it is enough just to observe the simple rules of courtesy.

Hyperzette:
Any definite plans for the future ?

Ignis Fatuus:
We hope to pass on a distant server with a high speed broadband connection. This will allow us to expand the grid but also receive visitors in best conditions and 24/7.

Hyperzette:
Have you been in other virtual worlds before Ignis Fatuus and/or are you still registered in others ?

Ignis Fatuus:
Yes, Aime Socrates has several regions on the grid to another Jeff Kelley resident at this address:  88.161.20.136:9000/   and on New World Grid.
Prodyck Theas has several regions on OSGrid and also has its own grid at this address: ipsofacto.sytes.net:9000. He is a painter and exhibits his paintings.

  1. Just finished visiting Ignis, Oh My God! Amazing work!! Max Hill and his team did spectacular work. Ignis Fatuus is the best site on the Hypergrid and I dare say it's better than anything on Second Life too. Anyone visiting will be in total shock. Your Second Life/OpenSim life will be empty without seing this place! :)
